Authorization | The first step in a credit card transaction gains approval through the real-time authorization networks to collect the given amount to the customer’s card and places a hold on the funds. |

Capture | Requests that funds be captured from the customer’s card account. Commonly performed at the same time as the Authorization. |
Capture Settlement | Funds will generally settle one to two days after capture is requested. During capture settlement, the money has been transferred from the customer’s account to the merchant’s account and the transaction is complete. |
Card | Refers to Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and JCB cards. Offline debit card transactions are very similar to credit card transactions and do not require the cardholder to key in a PIN. |
DEC | Decimal ( may or may not contain decimal point, i.e., 555.34 or 555 ). Commas used for amounts greater than 999. |
DT | Date in CCYYMMDD format. |
eCheck | Refers to the transfer of money directly from a checking or savings account electronically. |
Merchant | The entity that wishes to accept credit cards. Funds are transferred into the merchant’s bank account. |
Merchant ID | Unique ID assigned by InstaMed to each merchant. |

Store ID | Unique ID assigned by InstaMed for each store. Merchants may have one or more “stores” under each Merchant ID for tracking or functional purposes. |
Terminal ID | Unique ID assigned by InstaMed for each virtual terminal. Each store must have at least one terminal. Used for tracking and reporting only. |
